Movie Review: Delhi Belly & Muder 2

Last week and this week were really exciting weeks for a movie buff like me. Loads of entertaining movies to pick from and I picked Aamir Khan Production's Delhi Belly and Vishesh Film's Murder 2 the second in the Murder series.

DELHI BELLY:

As expected from an Aamir Khan Production, Delhi Belly didn't disappoint me at all. It is a madcap comedy surrounding the three protagonists of the movie played by Imran Khan, Kunaal Roy Kapoor and Vir Das with a Poorna Jaganathan and Shenaz Treasurywala thrown in for titilation and fun.

Delhi Belly tells the story of Tashi [Imran Khan], Arup [Vir Das] and Nitin [Kunal Roy Kapur] - flat mates, buddies and partners in crime. Tashi is to get married in a month to the glamorous Sonia [Shenaz Treasury]. Arun has been dumped by his girlfriend and also has an annoying boss [whose idea of creativity is sketching a smiling banana in percentagewise smile]. And Nitin is about to discover that eating delicious Tandoori Chicken off a street vendor is going to give him the worst case of Delhi Belly he's ever known!

Three regular blokes lead a regular life, except when they get on the hit list of a deadly crime syndicate [Vijay Raaz].

Director Abhinay Deo and writer Akshat Varma may have been inspired by the adult comedies of Hollywood, but Delhi Belly is an Indian film at heart. The characters are very Indian and the humor, equally desi. As a matter of fact, there are situations and dialogue that the desis would take to instantly - it's inherently Indian.

Aimed squarely at the youth brigade, Delhi Belly makes an undisguised, earnest attempt to woo this segment of moviegoers. What really works is its screenplay that packs one twist after another. You are as clueless as the on-screen characters about what's in store next. Also, the humor is very on the face and sardonic. It's not one of those humor-laden films that we've been subjected often. Here, the makers don't underline a joke, you need to be intelligent enough to comprehend it. This film speaks a language that the youth would connect with instantly and it will go down in the history of Bollywood as a cult film in its genre.

As far as acting goes everybody has performed well. There are sequences which made me hold onto my stomach and laugh especially I would like to point out the sequence when Vijay Raaz dumps the content of the bottle (shit instead of the supposed smuggled diamonds) that has been delivered to him by Vir Das on a velvet cloth or when the ceiling of the flat where Imran Khan and friends stay comes down on Vijay Raaz and his men etc... Towards the end of the movie it is revealed that there is also a likelihood of a sequel to be made titled 'Disco Fighter' which might star Aamir Khan alongwith the original cast of Delhi Belly. Music of the movie is the highlight and so are the dialogues. As a cinema fan I thoroughly enjoyed the 96 mins of nonstop or rather uninterrupted entertainment dished out by Aamir Khan and his team. I highly recommend this movie for every 'ADULT' viewer.

MURDER 2:

MURDER 2 is the second in the much appreciated 2004 moive MURDER produced by Vishesh Films and directed by Anurag Basu starring Emran Hashmi and Mallika Sherawat. It is not a sequel to the previous blockbuster however it is a new story with nothing common to the earlier movie. Directed by Mohit Suri who had earlier made RAAZ 2 which was another movie in the RAAZ series tells the story of Arjun [Emraan Hashmi] who is an ex-cop who earns his bread doing the odd jobs for gangsters and flesh traders. Arjun meets Sameer, a Goan flesh-peddler, who has been suffering a huge loss as his hookers have been disappearing mysteriously. He assigns Arjun the responsibility of tracing the missing girls. Priya [Jacqueline Fernandez], a model, loves Arjun. However, he is hesitant to commit to this relationship.

Arjun realizes that the missing hookers are connected by one cell phone number. He decides that in order to catch the lion one must feed him the lamb. He devises a plan that involves sending a girl to the particular customer.

Reshma [Sulagna Panigrahi], a college student, takes to prostitution to support her family. She becomes the innocent prey and is sent to the antagonist Dheeraj's [Prashant Narayan] house. The unexpected happens. In the meantime, Arjun and Dheeraj cross paths. Arjun gets into a tiff with Dheeraj and they both land up at the police station. Dheeraj admits to a crime so heinous that even the police are stunned by his outrageous behavior.

Now it's all up to Arjun. He has just one night to find proof against Dheeraj and also trace Reshma.

Director Mohit Suri and writer Shagufta Rafique come to the point at the very start, when a gruesome murder takes place. Thereafter, we are introduced to the varied characters in the plot and what makes it all the more interesting is that all characters are either grey or black. Also, the identity of the serial killer is never concealed, but the motive is, which one realizes much later. It comes as a jolt. 

The story is good, the music is average and the performances are outstanding. Emraan Hashmi and Prashant Narayanan gets their role of a lifetime while Sulagna Panigrahi is fantastic in a very important role. Jacqueline Fernandez gets very less to perform however she is much better compared to her earlier movies 'Aladin' and 'Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai'. 

On the whole this weekend for me was total paisa vasool with these two movies although I would also be watching Salman Khan's home production 'Chillar Party' in the coming days.

Review: Double Dhamaal

After the last two disappointing weeks for Bollywood, here comes the 'Baap' of Comedy i.e. Double Dhamal which is a sequel to the hillarious Dhamal directed by Indra Kumar. Indra Kumar always had a knack for comedy, even if you watch his earlier hits like Dil, Beta, Raja, Ishq, & Masti although the movies were emotional stories or say family socials or romance the comedy track were always superb. With Dhamal and now Double Dhamal Indra Kumar has gone one more notch up on the comedy ladder.

Double Dhamal starts from where the prequel ended. The four good-for-nothing friends from DHAMAAL - Roy [Ritesh Deshmukh], Adi [Arshad Warsi], Manav [Jaaved Jaaferi] and Boman [Aashish Chaudhry]  are back again! They are still as stupid and useless as before. Hard work is a strict no and the only work they have ever done in their lives is to lie down on their backside and dream about a good life where they have everything without doing anything!

And then suddenly they spot their enemy the corrupt Insp. Kabir Nayak [Sanjay Dutt]. But he's no longer a cop and instead of chasing crooks, he's chasing money  driving a Merc, has a posh office and a lavish villa. The four mad caps are green with envy and decide that come what may, by hook or by crook, they will share Kabir's good fortune. And so they blackmail Kabir into making them his business partners.

What they don't know is that soon their dreams are going to turn into nightmares because Kabir has his own hidden agenda, only shared by his sultry girlfriend Kamini [Mallika Sherawat] and sister Kiya [Kangna Ranaut]. And so starts a game of one-upmanship, with both sides having tricks up their sleeves and where sundry characters like Batabhai [Satish Kaushik] and King of Casino, Bonzola, turn up to make their life miserable.

Actingwise everyone has given a career best performance. Ritesh is as hillarious as ever and so is Arshad, Ashish Choudhary and Javed Jaffery. Sanjay Dutt being the target in the movie doesnt have any comic lines or punches but the situations and the characters around him make the scenes more hillarious and he has done a fantastic job as always. Mallika Sherawat is a revelation in a comic role which she has attempted for the first time and so is Kangana. Satish Kaushik is one more brilliant actor who brings the house down with his mere presence.

Songs are nothing to write about apart from 'Jalebi Bai' which is an average fare. Tushar Hiranandani should be applauded for his screenplay and Farhad Sajid for the dialogues. One the whole Double Dhamal is a total entertainer and people should leave their brains at home to watch this comic caper. The movie should do fantastic business at the Box Office and this might also give way to another sequel in the Dhamal series.

Movie Review: Bin Bulaye Baarati

Bin Bulaaye Baarati or BBB is a comic caper by a debutant Chandrakant Singh which stars Aftab Shivdasani, Priyanka aka Amogha aka Nisha (God knows how many more names she will change to get a hit movie) Kothari, Johny Lever, Gulshan Grover etc.

The story goes like this Durjan Singh [Gulshan Grover] is a dangerous dacoit from Chambal. He comes to the city with the theft he has accumulated [diamonds and jewels]. He meets a don, Gajraj [Mukesh Tiwari] and his right-hand Ranjeet [Hemant Pandey], tells them to sell the jewelry, take their 10% and give the balance money back to him.

Meanwhile, AD [Aftab Shivdasani], who is being chased by police, escapes in Gajraj's vehicle. AD is dating police inspector PP's [Om Puri] niece Shreya [Priyanka Kothari]. Coincidentally, Murari [Rajpal Yadav], Hazari [Sanjay Mishra] and Chetta Singh [Vijay Raaz], who are on the run, jump in the same van. The cops are on the lookout of all four for different reasons.

They reach the village which is terrorized by Durjan Singh. The villagers think the cops have arrived, since they are dressed in uniforms, so that they can save them from the clutches of dacoits.

BBB rests on a thin plot and even the screenplay is plain ridiculous and stupid. This is a film targeted at the B & C centers of massy moviegoers who enjoy the thrills, humor and of course, the songs, especially item songs here it is 'Shaalu Ke Thumke' featuring oomph queen Mallika Sherawat (who is seen more in item numbers than in full fledged roles).

The direction is quite average, the performances are quite okay however Johny Lever raises few laughs with his gay act. The scences involving Om Puri, Rati Agnihotri & Neeraj Vora are also laugh worthy.

On the whole it is a good entertainer for the front benchers and the Class audience might not favour this movie.

Movie Review: Always Kabhi Kabhi

These days youth centric subjects and movies are the most exploited by most of the new directors. After movies like 'Isi Life Mein','Love Ka The End', 'Pyar Ka Punchnama' comes yet another coming up of age movie by SRK's Red Chillies 'Always Kabhi Kabhi' directed by Roshan Abbas and starring newcomers Giselle (last seen in Love Aaj Kal), Zoa Morani, Satyajeet Dubey & Ali Fazal.

The story is about four students of St. Marks School. Each one going through a difficult time in his/her life due to enormous expectations from their parents. Tariq [Satyajeet Dubey] is expected to be a topper... Sameer [Ali Fazal] has to arrange for money after he's cornered by two corrupt cops... Ash [Giselle Monteiro] has an over-ambitious mother who's keen that she join ad world/movies… Nandini [Zoa Morani] is someone who has a major attitude and it stems due to her relationship with her parents.

How they overcome all odds and make their folks realize the folly forms the crux of the story.

The story is just okay and the movie is boring to the core as it goes on and on and on and maybe the director forgot to say cut or he didn't know how to end the movie. There is nothing good or novel about the movie. There are no foot tapping numbers in the movie, which would have been a good thing to catch the target audience i.e. youngsters attention. Apart from Ali Fazal & Satyajeet none of the actors have lived upto their mark even veterans like Lillette Dubey, Navneet Nishan, Manoj Joshi, Mukesh Tiwari and Satish Shah are passable. Vijay Raaz gets no scope to perform. Giselle and Zoa needs to polish their acting skills as they appear to be a bit akward and ameature in few scenes.

On the whole please avoid this movie as there is nothing interesting or novel about the subject and it disappoints on the whole. With the presence of Ready the box office collections for this SRK production seems to be dim.

Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara : Preview

Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara in short ZMND the next directorial venture of Zoya Akhtar has caught my attentions since the day I saw it's first look. The just released songs are still playing in my ipod on repeat mode. The trailers are catching everybody's attention. The common gossip doing the round is that it is a rip off of 'The Hangover' however apart from the basic story line I dont find anything common between both the movies. For all the people who like me are eagerly awaiting the release of ZMND I present you the exclusive preview of the movie.

ZMND PREVIEW: Kabir (Abhay Deol) has just met Natasha (Kalki Koechlin). 6 months later they are engaged. Kabir wants to go on an extended bachelor party. A 3 week road trip with Imraan (Farhan Akhtar) and Arjun (Hrithik Roshan) - his 2 best friends since school. The only problem is Arjun is too tied up with work. After much emotional blackmail and cajoling the boys set off on a journey they were meant to take 4 years ago.

A fantasy holiday they had planned to take after college but never happened. A road trip where each one gets to do the ultimate sport of his choice and the other 2 just have to do it with him. Whether they want to or not!

In the course of the trip they come across Laila (Katrina Kaif) the diving instructor.

Kabir, Imraan and Arjun, who meet up in Barcelona, set off on an adventure that will not only make them iron out their differences but also face their fears, after their perception, unravel their fabric, force them to break out of the box and teach them to seize the day.

In other words a holiday that will change their lives forever.

Music Review: Zindagi Na Mile Dobara

Okay Okay Okay.... I have been away from the blogging world for quite sometime because of my busy schedules and yes there are many more excuses for me to not coming here and penning down my thoughts. However, after listening to the latest music album from the soon to be released move by Farhan Akhtar titled 'Zindagi Mile Na Dobara' I was compelled to write my thoughts for you guys.

First and foremost the album boasts of many talented people associated with the same like music director S-E-L, lyricist Javed Akhtar, Actor/Director/Producer Farhan Akhtar & his sister Director Zoya Akhtar (who is directing the movie after her last 'Luck By Chance') with Hrithik, Abhay Deol, Katrina Kaif and Farhan thrown in as actors. The expectations from this kind of a project is HUGH and the album definitely lives upto the expectations of the audience.

There are in total seven songs however songs like Ik Junoon (Paint It Red), Dil Dhadakne Do, Senorita, Khaabon Ke Parinday etc are worth a repeat listening. I can say for a fact that after a long time S-E-L has come up with a very beautiful soundtrack although not massy like Dhinka Chika or a Character Dheela from READY but it is definitely a class apart. So honest opinion from me is to GO FOR IT!!!

Does True Love Exist in Today's Time?

In today's world where relationships are losing their true meaning, where partners do not think twice before cheating, a close check will always keep you safe. It is time to get alert when you find that your partner is ignoring you, he/she is always busy when you call at any hour, does not give you enough time, makes too many private calls or stops sharing his/her life with you.

A psychologist once told me “People take relationships very casually these days and ignore the seriousness of a relationship. As a result, this ends in giving less respect to the partner. Needbased relationships are more today and if needs are not fulfilled, a person does not think twice about moving on.”   The fact that monogamy is no longer a trend in relationships, partners have their perceptions about why the other cheats or indulges in being disloyal.

Incompatibility is often the reason cited for partners resorting to cheating. Sometimes psychotic possessiveness can also be irritating for a partner. But in any case, cheating should not be the option.

So if you find your relationship has hit a rough patch, do not overlook, it is time to do a reality check in your relationship. Recently, researchers have discovered that people can tell how likely their partner is a cheat just by listening to their voice.

Giving attention to self is good but sudden interest of grooming; looking smarter and change of style could be an effort to make an impact on someone.

There was a time when love was considered the most purest form of emotion in the world. Great poets and writers wrote about them and immortalized them through their stories and poems. In today's technically advanced world do you think Romeos & Juliets or say Heer Ranjhas still exist? Get a reality check done, maybe you would have ignored certain signs which could spell doom for you in coming few days/weeks/months.
